KC 101

Kansas and Missouri states, with Kansas City marked with a KC Heart in the middle

Where to begin? The Kansas City region is rich with history and overflowing with vibrant neighborhoods, welcoming people and countless attractions to explore. But, if you’re new to the region — it’s best to start with the basics.

Where are we, anyway? Step one — we’re not just in Kansas, or just in Missouri. Kansas City is a sprawling region, covering 9,193 square miles across both states, with our metro’s downtown urban core located on the Missouri side. Locals often refer to either side of the state line as KCMO and KCK.

Experience all the seasons. Here, you’ll get the full spectrum of weather, from blooming spring and warm, humid summers to brisk falls and bright, snowy winters.

Try those burnt ends. While we offer delicious cuisine from every corner of the globe, every local has — and will passionately share about — their favorite barbecue spot. And burnt ends are kind of our thing, they were invented here in KC, after all.
