Outdoor Adventures Ahead

With more than 1,300 parks in the KC region, there’s bound to be one nearby. Swope Park is the largest, boasting miles of hiking trails, bikeways, ziplining, the Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium and more. If a hidden gem is more your style, head to Cave Spring Park to explore winding trails, historic ruins and a waterfall. Or take in the scenic river views at English Landing Park in Parkville, which also offers a boat ramp, sand volleyball and a disc golf course.
Ready for a beach day? Among a wide range of options, check out the lake, beach and marina at Shawnee Mission Park — perfect for kayaking, paddleboarding and pedal boating. Or, try fishing, swimming and sailing at the nearby 7,190-acre Smithville Lake.
If you’re up for a challenge, hike Sanders Mound Trail just outside of Lawrence, Kansas, or tackle the hilly trail at Weston Bend State Park in Weston, Missouri. While you’re there, stop by the Lewis and Clark Overlook for a one-of-a-kind view.
When relaxation is your outdoor priority, book an ultra-private Getaway Cabin in Osceola, Missouri, for a woodsy glamping experience. Or opt for Under the Stars KC, which brings the glamping to you with luxury teepees and picnic set-ups.
You don’t have to leave the city for a memorable outdoor experience. Urban Hikes KC offers guided walkabouts that provide a workout and new insights into local history. When you’re looking to get away from it all, try the family scavenger hunt at Ernie Miller Park and Nature Center, the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens or Powell Gardens, Kansas City’s Botanical Garden.
